The Auckland Zoo – Alligator Enclosure

Fat Parrot designed this new alligator house for the Auckland Zoo in 2012.

It is a “solarium” to warm up the alligators in winter and aid their general health and food digestion. The “dilapidated” look of the exterior is in keeping with alligator bayou swamps, and it hides the sophisticated solarium in the interior.

Mairangi Bay Surf Club

This reconstruction and fit-out of the existing Mairangi Bay Surf Club involves the demolition of the existing club facilities, (last upgraded in the 1970’s) and the construction of a new clubhouse, incorporating public toilets, café, storage, first aid room, conference room and club lounge on an enlarged footprint.

The design process has involved extensive consultation with the public, Auckland council and Watercare Services, including participation in the Reserve Management Plan process. It is anticipated the building will be constructed in 2017.
